Dear [fname],

Thermometer

Because people have been forwarding my newsletter to family, friends, and people they know, we are now bringing worldwide awareness about kidney cancer and Dr. Michael B. Atkins research efforts to find a cure for this disease. Over the last 2 months my website has received hundreds of visits from around the world – US, Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, China, England, Germany, Hungary, Latvia, and Venezuela. My sincere thanks to you and the hundreds of other people who have taken the time to forward my monthly newsletter – keep up the good work – and let’s color the US map “GREEN”.

It is important that you know how Dr Michael B. Atkins and his team of physicians are using 100% of your generous donations. They are using the money to improve the diagnosis and treatment options for patients with kidney cancer and their efforts are presently focused on the following areas of promising research:

  1. Identification of biomarkers in urine and blood to enable detection of disease at an earlier and
more treatable stage and more sensitive monitoring of treatment effects.
  2. Identification of molecular and immunologic predictors of kidney cancer responsiveness to IL-2
and other therapies enabling us to target treatments to those most likely to benefit.
  3. Evaluation of the clinical and biologic effects of novel drugs with potent antitumor and anti-angiogenic properties, administered either alone or in combination, in patients with high risk or advanced kidney cancer.
  4. Evaluation of novel vaccine and immunotherapy treatment approaches for patients with advanced kidney cancer.
  5. Evaluation of mechanisms of resistance to standard therapies and ways of preventing or delaying its development.

Worldwide Marathons Donations Updates:

US Map of States DonationsOver the last 10 years we have raised a total of $56,548.00 for kidney cancer research at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical center in Boston, Massachusetts in memory of my brother John. To meet the goal of raising $100,000.00 we need to raise $43,452.00 over the next 4 years that I will be running worldwide marathons. For your information I have broken down the 2008 Berlin, Germany marathon for kidney cancer research donations by the month they were made as well as where the 10-year total donations came from. As you can see from the 1999 to 2008 donation sources we have brought kidney cancer awareness to 22 US states [green] and 1 foreign country. We recently received a donation from the state of Utah, which brought our count to 22 US States. To help bring awareness to the other 28 US states [red] and as many foreign countries as possible I would greatly appreciate it if you would forward the newsletter to family, friends, and people you know who live in those states. This is a great opportunity for us to let people throughout the US and around the world know about the efforts that are being made to find a cure for kidney cancer.
