“Patience and perseverance have a magical effect before which
difficulties disappear and obstacles vanish.”
- John Quincy Adams
Dear [fname],
IGood news to report - I am in the 11th week of my 18-week, 650 mile, Stockholm marathon training program and everything is going as planned. I completed my 1st 20 mile long run on March 28th and met my planned 20 mile pace goal. I have another 20 mile run on April 18th and my final long run of 22 miles will be on May 18th - 3 weeks before the Stockholm marathon. My 72-year-old body is holding up well and at this stage of my training I have no major injuries to overcome before the marathon. I will be leaving for Stockholm on May 26th and will be returning on June 3rd – on my way back to San Diego I will be stopping off in Boston to spend time with my daughter Lisa her husband Steve, family and friends. While in Boston I will be meeting with Doctor Michael B. Atkins to discuss the status of his kidney cancer research efforts. I am looking forward to the challenge of finishing my 11th worldwide marathon to raise money for kidney cancer research at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, Massachusetts.
Although these are difficult times I am very optimistic that with the continued support and encouragement of people like you we will meet this year’s donations goal of $10,000.00 for such a very worthy cause. Our 10 –year total raised for kidney cancer research is now at $65,373.00 and we now only need to raise $9,627.00 over the next 10 months to reach our next donations major milestone of $75,000.00. During the 10-year quest to raise money for kidney cancer research I have received a total of 863 donations from people living in 24 U.S. states and 1 foreign country. We are only 137 donations away from reaching our next donations major milestone of receiving 1,000 donations.
People suffering with kidney cancer need your help. You help them by donating to kidney cancer research now.

Stockholm, Sweden - Did you know?
Stockholm is the capital and largest city of Sweden. It is the site of the national Swedish government, the Parliament, and the official residence of the Swedish monarch. Stockholm is the most populous city in Sweden. It has been the cultural, media, political, and economic center of Sweden since the 13th century. Since the city is built on 14 islands and known for its beauty, it is also known as the “Venice of the North”.
Worldwide Marathons Donations Sources:
As you can see from the 1999 to 2008 donation sources we have now brought kidney cancer awareness to 24 US states [green] and 1 foreign country. We recently received a donation from the great state of Minnesota, which brought the total US states that have donated to 24. To help bring awareness to the other 26 US states [red] and as many foreign countries as possible I would greatly appreciate it if you would forward the newsletter to family, friends, and people you know who live in those states. This is a great opportunity for us to let people throughout the US and around the world know about the efforts that are being made to find a cure for kidney cancer. We are close to coloring all of the New England states green, we only need donations from the states of Maine and Vermont. If you know someone in those states please forward the newsletter to them so that they can become a part of this very worthy cause.

A chance meeting with Bob, while running at the San Diego Balboa Park, has enriched my appreciation for what “a man with a cause” can accomplish in this life. Tenacity, perseverance, and dedication are all strengths required to finish a marathon, and Bob has shown me the same qualities can be applied to a cause like raising money for kidney cancer.

I hope that Bob’s humor Corner will bring a smile to your face – to quote Mark Twain “Humor is the great thing, the saving thing. The minute it crops up, all our irritations and resentments slip away, and a sunny spirit takes their place.”
- A woman walked into a Bank and said to the loan officer, “I’d like to talk to you about a loan.” “Great” the ecstatic loan officer replied, “how much can you give us?”
- · “You should be ashamed,” the father, told his son, “when Abraham Lincoln was your age, he used to walk ten miles every day to get to school.” “Really?” the kid said. “Well when he was your age he was President.”
I would not be able to publish my monthly newsletters without the very creative Graphic design work of Christian Riggs, President of Riggs Creative Group. Christian has not only given his time and design expertise to the newsletter but he also designed and maintains my website.
Listed below are my corporate sponsors who have generously donated their “Best in Class” products and services to help me meet my mission. Without their generous support it would be very difficult for me to continue my mission.
Have a great day,
Bob Rebello
